free crossword puzzle | happy Fourth of July!

We celebrate our nation’s birthday with a puzzle called “Pow Wow!”  Some of you test-solved it on our other blog. For those who’ve solved it before — skip the puzzle and grab your first ice-cold July 4th beer.

But I suspect most of you will see this for the first time. You’ll need the latest free version of  Adobe Reader to open the puzzle.

    Sparkling!

    A single quibble-shouldn’t 33A be clued “Insect resin?” I gather it is found on host trees, but the thousands of insects that colonize the tree are the resinous ones, not the tree itself.

      Oh, yes, HawkMem — I like your clue much better as the more organic and accurate description. I’m adding this to my lengthy “Watch-Out!” file . . . these insects help in making violin varnishes, and should be credited for their good work. Thank you for the improvement!
